

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM PLAY ADAPTATION
“Putting on a play” is an imaginative way for children
to become familiar with Shakespeare, his language, and his characters.
We offer two adaptations - one for families and one for schools.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Play for Families
(with directions for family and friends and an indoor or outdoor performance)
A Midsummer Night’s Dream Play for Schools
(with directions for teachers and students and a classroom or school performance)

• abridged version for children of elementary and middle school age
• approximately thirty minutes long
• a production in which everyone plays a part, either on stage or behind the scenes
• five speaking roles - a narrator, Bottom the Donkey, Titania, Puck, and Oberon
• original lines that may be read or memorized
• five costume hats
• directions for a performance
• simple technical ideas for children to create their own production
• seven committees - set, lighting, sound effects, music, dance, props, additional costumes
• hints for Shakespeare’s language and a list of tricky words
• a large print script that is easily read and copied
